Billabong by Joel Spencer

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Still water curves gently through sunlit grass, framed by gum trees that lean like quiet sentinels. In Billabong, the artist captures the calm pulse of the Australian landscape — not in grandeur, but in intimacy. Shadows stretch across ochre earth, and the mirrored sky offers a moment of stillness in a world that rarely pauses. There's a timelessness here, a sense that this place has always existed just so — waiting, watching, reflecting. It is a painting of peace, of presence, and of the quiet beauty that dwells beside the water.

ARTIST BIO

I am a painter of light.

I believe that the best and purest medium for capturing light is watercolour. Watercolour produces images like no other medium. It is tricky and ephemeral and demands dedication and perserverance.

I try to capture scenes of light and shadow that tell stories and/or evoke deep and primal emotions within people.

One of my collectors wrote to me and said, "Part of what I was saying about your paintings, and I understand it might sound a bit mystical, but some artists have the ability to pierce the boundary between the temporal and the divine and give us glimpses of the bounty of beauty that is our Creator's. And you exercise that gift, and give me that little glimpse as I ponder your paintings....which is a simple thing,  but very cool and wonderful."

I am an active member of the Victorian Arttists Society (VAS), the Watercolour Society of Victoria (WSV) and the Ringwood Art Society (RAS)

I have received various awards including a recent commendation from the "International Watercolour Masters"
