Michael notes: In my choices I've gone for competence, knowledge of the subject and knowing their medium.  I also look at previous work, wanting to see a body of quality paintings.

#260 Jianqiang Xu, 'MORNING IN AUTUMN' - Watercolour, Landscape

"This painting shows the artist's utmost confidence and knowledge of this very difficult medium.  I believe Jianqiang is equivalent to some of the best watercolour artists in the world - Joseph Zbukvic, Herman Pekel and Alvaro Castagnet."

#149 Do Noble, 'GOLDEN HORIZON' - Oil on canvas

"Do is no stranger to art shows and art prizes.  This work shows his superb use of colour and tone."

#167 Brian Randall, 'BEACH LIFE'

"I was immediately taken by the flowing lines and bands of colour here.  The photograph looks so peaceful but when you look more closely, you can see all the people captured in that moment in time, in a typical Australian summer scene.  The artist has made clever use of modern technology to result in this very pleasing work."

"This photograph has such simplicity, yet has a lot of impact.  The balance is perfect, it is a charming piece and the framing complements the photograph perfectly."

"This is exceptional work from a world-class painter. This is a faultless example of the classic Italian style.  It is beautifully composed, a wonderful pastel painting."

"Glenn is a well-established artist who paints in a variety of styles.  This still life is quite risk-taking, with a hint of humour."

"Ani has a unique style. This work is a highly original use of the medium and acrylic paint."
